What are you favorite bad 80s SF films?

What are some of you favorite 1980s bad genre films?  Examples might include Weird Science, Willow, Krull, Flash Gordon... I leave it up to the individual to define “bad” and “favorite.”    I’m making a list, but I want to make sure I don’t forget any.  Please help, Obi won Livejournal. You’re my only hope.

Clockpunk.com Open for Beta Viewing

The new Roundbottom site is now complete enough that I have taken it live on the domain. I’ve been at work on this redesign for quite some time now. There are probably bugs… and don’t even bother looking at it with anything less than IE 7. Also, the site requires Javascript and Flash.

Bang away on it, and let me know what seems weird. I’ll try to get it fixed.

New content will go live on Sunday, and will continue to go live with new posts once a week until I run out again, but I have a nice storyline ready to go that should last into August.

Explore, and let me know what you think.

Daily Photo: Beetle in Flower

Seriously, I need to start thinking about writing a blog post that doesn’t involve photography. But for now, you have this lovely beetle to keep you comfortable. This is the same guy who was smiling at you last week. Perhaps this one will be less creepy?

Daily Photo: Resting

Dragonflies are fun to take pictures of too, but only early int he morning. You ever tried to take a picture of a dragonfly in flight? Freaking impossible.

A new pro rate fantasy e-zine?

Someone passed this link on to me via delicious. Does anyone know anything about Beneath Ceaseless Skies? What’s their operating model? Looks interesting, content-wise, and there’s some nice art featured. I’m not familiar with the editor, however.

Daily Photo: Beetle Awesomeness

Beetles are awesome. Especially when covered in pollen and sitting inside of a flower. I think today was the first day I was finally feeling pretty comfortable with the new camera, although macro photography is really what I have the best luck with in general. today, I toted a flash out with me and my tripod to hold it, so I lit all these shots. It was too overcast to use natural light and get good depth of field anyway. Slowly but surely, I am improving my macro photography game. I really like this shot a lot.

Daily Photo: Bronze “Statue”

Ahh, Boulder. This is where I first had a chance to break out the new camera and start working. I’ve seen a lot of street performers on Pearl Street Mall, but I had never seen one of those living statue folks until this weekend. Don’t you think she should have painted the frog bronze as well? It really bothers me that it’s green and plastic for some reason.
Will be utterly swamped with work for the rest of the week. Trying very hard to finish way too many freelance projects before starting the new job.

Daily Photo: Resting II

The new camera is performing satisfactorily. I’ve become obsessed with sharpness lately. The first round of pictures I took were overwhelmingly out of focus and it left me really confused. The camera has image stabilization, so it should take sharper pictures than before, yes? I think the new focusing system was to blame though. It has 11 focusing points instead of the old three point system and that takes some getting used to. I’m using my tripod pretty heavily now and it’s helping. Also, the two second delay timer. This thing just seems super sensitive to shake from pressing the shutter.

I really like how this dragonfly photo turned out, although I probably should have went portrait in the framing.

Bonus Photo: Long Exposure Heron

This is a 13 second exposure. The only bird I’ve ever chased that you can do a 13 second exposure of is the blue heron. The tipoff that this is a long exposure is the way the water becomes kind of weirdly silky. This is a crop–obviously, I wish the background wasn’t so much in focus, and that the bird was isolated, but it’s hard to take wildlife photography after dark with no flash.

Bonus Photo: The Moon Rises

I purchased a new camera today–the Olympus E-3. It should be a better camera than my old E-500 in every way, but I can tell that I am going to have to relearn many aspects of shooting. That should be fun. Here’s a heavily cropped shot of the moon for your weekend pleasure.
